“Normal flight.” Golf in the air

Can a refined aristocrat, a connoisseur of social fun at heart be a desperate extreme, hungry for heights and adrenaline? Even as you can! – participants of a unique air Golf competition that took place in the Moscow region claim.

The competition included 3 sports: helicopter, Golf and Polo. Players had to score a huge ball with a diameter of 1 m in improvised holes from a 5-meter height, while in a helicopter. A 4-meter bamboo stick with a hammer on the end was used as a club. The weight of such an unusual “weapon” was only 5-6 kg, so it was not dangerous or inconvenient for the players. All the action took place on a snow-covered field.

As one of the event organizers Yulia Khvastunova noted, ” the idea of holding such an unusual competition came spontaneously. Each of the participants had Golf experience and flying experience. But to combine these skills was a very original idea.”
The main difficulty for the players was the need to not only deftly hit the ball, but also, at the same time, play the role of Navigator, since the pilot can not see the ball.

According to the pilot, master of sports Vadim Sazonov, during the competition, he used various elements of piloting techniques: low-altitude flights, aerobatics, and others.

The territory for the game was borrowed from “earth” golfers and all measures were taken to preserve the field for the summer season.

In order for the helicopters to maintain a safe distance, the track was specially measured, marked, and set up gates.

Participants tried to use many traditional techniques of Golf, but in these conditions they were useless: the flow of air from the helicopter made the ball roll at times faster than the set pace.

But the players have accumulated bright emotions from this mix of sports directions until the summer.
