Golf is one of the few sports in the world where the playing fields are so unusual. Every Golf course in the world is unique and no two can be the same. Miniature Golf courses are as unusual as traditional Golf courses. Mini Golf is an entertaining game derived from the usual classic Golf. Back in the ‘ 60s of the nineteenth century, social norms gave women the right to play this sport, so mini Golf was invented for girls so they could enjoy the less aggressive part of the game. In the second part of the twentieth century, parks with windmills, fun characters, and hilly colorful landscapes began to appear to popularize the game and attract people. “A coward does not play Golf”-this is how a familiar phrase can now sound in a new way. And all because playing Golf on ice is only possible for those who are not afraid of the scorching icy wind and meeting with the main rivals-polar bears.
Golf on ice is a relatively young phenomenon. The first Amateur championship in this unique sport was held in 1984 in the state of Minnesota. Today, the game has thousands of fans around the world.
Since 1997, the ice Golf Championships have been held annually in Greenland, on the island of Umanak, 560 km from the Arctic circle. Continue reading
